Some times it is hard to see where the ocean and sky meet

You have heard the saying that you can't see the forest for the trees, well some times you can't see where the ocean meets the sky. That maybe hard to believe but on certain days when the sky is over cast and gray the ocean reflects the gray sky and when you look out over the ocean you don't see the horizon because it all blends together.

That's the way the past weeks have been, we have been so busy that all the days have run together. Up at 3 or 4 AM to get to the Temple before the Maui wards get there, work until 2:30 in the afternoon and then drive home. Grab something to eat, sit down and the next thing you know you are taking a nap. Get up get something to eat, it's time for bed and you do it all over again.

It is really good to have the members from Maui over. They start early to try to get as much done as they can during a day. We really like it because the time flies because we are so busy. They also bring a great spirit with them so they are a real pleasure to be around. That seems to be the way almost all the people are here in Hawaii. They are so friendly, we have tried to put a finger on why that is, but all we can figure out is that they don't rush around, they pretty much take things as they come and they don't let much bother them. As a result they seem to be real happy and friendly to everyone.

We had the 4th of July off so we got together with the other 2 missionary couples here and had a barbecue. After we had eaten the men folk took a dip in the pool while the women cleaned up and then we went to the parade. It was the cheesiest parade we have ever seen and we loved every minute of it. There wasn't much rhyme or reason to what or who was in it. They had belly dancers, roller derby girls, the hospital workers, the nursing home people and about anyone else that wanted to be in it. We had been told that the majority of the parade would be made up with cement trunks but to our disappointment there wasn't a single one. After the parade we waited around and watched the fireworks fired from a barge that was in the bay. We had a wonderful time.
